The Mets can only go up from here. Madoff is behind bars, Minaya is gone, the outfield dimensions are being reconstructed, the young talent is getting their feet wet this season; it's all going to be a matter of time but the Mets will get back.

Justice is:
Out for the rest of the season, with a non baseball injury that will (hopefully) reduce contractual pay.

A summary of Minaya's stellar performance wouldn't be complete without mentioning Heilman.
Without getting into arm slot issues (2003 & 2004), when he was sent to the bullpen in 2005 his ERA and other stats were as good or better than Dan Haren's at that time. Both developed well that year, Haren as a starter, Heilman as a reliever.
But instead of giving Heilman a shot at starting in 06 they keep him in the pen, and trade for Maine & Perez.
Brilliant, cost effective move, especially when the guy pitched a 1 hit shutout in 05.
I suspect he would have turned into a solid starter, like Haren, and that if Haren were a Met he would have wound up in the pen.

I agree with the above comment. I honestly can't sand watching how 'friendly' the Mets seem to be when other opposing runners are on base. Smiling, chatting like there isn't a care in the world. It feels like the season is begining to slip away. I'm not saying that the season is dying but that it feels like it's beginning to slip away. I like Alex Cora so it didn't bother me in the least what he said to his team mates. Yes, I really wish it was David Wright, but he's not the type. He never will be either.

Wait. You're confusing me. Is it the message you dislike or
is it the messenger ? Had David Wright chimed in and
shushed Pelf would that be ok ?

I get your notion that a 215 hitter might not be the best
hitting instructor on the squad, but even a the ball boy
knows that losing eight out of your last 10 is nothing to laugh
about. Despite your desire to oust him from, Alex Cora is
still a member of the team. According to plenty, he's got
high baseball IQ, so if I were you, I'd cut him some slack...

Now onto a bigger issue: why do the Mets have a habit of
turning rookie nobodies into ESPN highlight stars. At least 5
times a season we face some kid who just got promoted to
the bigs, and time after time he blanks us. I have to ask if
the minor league scouts are doing their . How come the
rookie knows more about the getting the hitters out than we
do about him ?

You are so totally wrong on Catalanotto.

You don't hit .292 overall and over .300 with RISP and RISP and 2 outs in 14 ML seasons and suck.

Cat ONLY has one start, compared to EVERYONE else on the roster having at least 5. You don't put up that high of a BA over that long of a period WITHOUT having proven yourself, which Cat would if he got 1-2 starts a week. I guarantee if he had a one-two day a week platoon with Francouer, he would put up the same numbers he has over his career. The reason why his power numbers have been down the last few years is because A) injuries (he is now healthy) B) lack of consistent playing time.

If you think a CAREER minor leaguer will come to the majors and all of a sudden realize that he HASN'T spent his ENTIRE career in the minors and start to rake is insane!

If CC is the next Lou Gehrig like you say, why oh why did the Red Sox not trade for one but TWO LH hitting 1B-DH last season BEFORE Carter was traded to the Mets???? It's not like Adam LaRoche and Casey Kotchman are Willie Stargell and Willie McCovey either...Someone in the Red Sox front office realized this guy WOULD NOT be able to get the job done in the majors.

Look up Andy Tracy, Micheal Abreu, now Mike Hessmann, Andy Tomerlain, Mark Johnson, Jorge Toca, Chip Ambres...then tell me why a CAREER-MINOR LEAGUER IS EXACTLY THAT...BECAUSE putting up solid Triple A numbers is not in the same hemisphere as putting up solid MLB numbers.

Stop making things personal and actually LOOK at the players. Cat is a PROVEN...PROVEN player. All he needs is consistent playing time, which would be about 8-10 AB a week.

I can't believe he said "Pagan is a top of the order player" and uses that as a reason why he's not playing. How about you still bat him 2nd behind Reyes, bench Matthews and bat Castillo/Cora either 8th, or preferably 9th. This is definitely Manuel's worst personnel decision ever, and that's saying something. Jacobs getting the starting job over Carter is a close 2nd.

Very interesting read. It's pretty damning when you see this many washed up vets on one list. It's like looking at a beach after the Exxon Valdez oil spill - destruction and waste everywhere. And speaking of Valdez, you can probably add him to the list soon. As well as Emil Brown (remember his 6 ABs last year?), and hopefully someday soon, Mike Jacobs and Gary Matthews Jr.
