It certainly does seem that the Mets are going to either sign Lowe or re-sign Perez. I couldn't agree with you more that Lowe is their first choice and Perez second. With Lowe, you know what to expect. Your gonna get 180 innings of 3.50-4.00 ERA ball and be a solid #2 guy on the Mets behind Santana. I like Lowe and know he can be a big game pitcher provided the Mets do their part and actually make the playoffs and not blow it the last day of the season like they have the last two seasons. Lowe was a big game pitcher when he won it with the Sox in 2004. He is the best free agent pitcher out there. I also like Ollie Perez. In games that are considered "big games," Perez was pretty effective during his time as a Met. Although he is clearly out of his mind and some games walks the ballpark, he has been a Met before and you know what to expect and will probably command a little less than Lowe. Plus like you said he is another high strikeout lefty pitcher in an overly left handed batting NL EAST division (especially the Phils). I would not be upset with either pick.

You also brought up Pedro in your article. Martinez gave us 1.5 years of his 4 year contract. So essentially his 54 million 4 year deal that he signed in dec. 04 was the Mets handing him free money. I am not against re-signing Martinez to a very low sub $5 million dollar 1 year contract with an option year. Let him prove that he can still pitch and give us more than 5 innings a start. Also let him be the 5th starter out of spring training instead of Niese. You know sometime during the 2009 season as well Martinez will land on the DL so that is when you can have Niese ready to step up.
