The AL East is the toughest division in baseball. Somebody is going to miss the playoffs, right? Why not the Yankees? They aren't going to have A-Rod until mid May at the earliest, and who knows how his hip is going to hold out. Meanwhile, unlike a lot of folks, I don't think the Rays are a one year blip - that's a team that's going to get better, not worse, with all of their good young hitters and the wealth of young pitching they have. I think people are really underselling what the Rays are capable of, so that's why I wanted to be different and pick them to make the playoffs.

I've already gone into detail why I think the Angels stink. Their hitting isn't very good at all, and most of their key hitters are getting old. Their defense is nothing special, overrated by a lot of folks. They've already had three major injuries to their rotation (Lackey, Santana, and Escobar) and then you have the unfortunate passing of Nick Adenhart, weakening what was already becoming a weakness. I just don't think they are nearly as good as most people think, and could very well finish with less than 80 wins this year. This year's A's team will not be a pushover, either.

I kind of find it hard to believe you don't have the Yanks making the playoffs this year. As much as I hate them like you do, this team is good. Injuries ruined them last year and they still won 89 games. Now you add Tex, Sabathia, and Burnett and expect them to miss the playoffs? Plus you have Posada and Wang healthy? This team is deep and should win the division. I still think the Angels are the best team in the AL West. I think the A's will be better but not good enough to grab the division. The Angels ran away with the division last season and should do the same and have it locked up by Sept. 1st this season. We all seem in agreement that the Cubs are going to the World Series. Otherwise, I agree with you on just about everything else.
