The ballpark needs to be more Metsy (just created a word...eat your heart out Rachel Ray and your EVOO). Too commercialized if you ask me. The outfield fan area is great with all the restaurants and the NYC skyline in the background. I really dug that. The new apple isn't all that great, I would rather had the old one put back. Otherwise, its a nice upgrade to Shea. I love the Mets fanwalk with the bricks displayed and the Jackie Robinson rotunda is over the top too much. A section of Citi Field dedicated to him would have been fine. They've retired his number in every MLB park so that's enough for me. A Mike Piazza rotunda I can deal with though! The Clubhouse Shop is giant...nearly 8000 square feet and twice the size of the other one. I dug going in there and spending a few pennies on items when I went a few weeks ago. They upgraded everything in this new park but the team on the field!

I think they also forgot to tell the builders that it was a stadium for the New York Mets to play in. Seriously Cox, you can't deny the fact that there was not one picture, or logo, or anything for that matter other than brick, on the concourses. And I really hated the fact that the concourse was so closed off for almost the entire infield section behind home plate. Interesting design with the club boxes at field level, I'd love to sit in there. But it seems that the Mets, like that other NY team, are catering to the rich.

Oh, and you forgot to mention the amount of ads in the park! My god! That food court area is seriously like Times Square!

I enjoyed my pulled pork sandwich, needs more BBQ sauce though. :)

Do you think it doesn't stand out because you've been to so many new ballparks? I mean, the more times you see the same ballpark, it's going to strike you less and less. I guess I didn't communicate this as well as I'd have liked, but what I liked most was the upgraded food options and getting to see the old apple up close and personal, and of course I loved our seats in the Pepsi Porch. I'd like to catch a few more games there just to see what else the stadium offers as far as sight lines go, but as a functional place to watch a baseball game, it beats Shea.

I more or less agree with your assessments thus far. It was a much, much nicer atmosphere than Shea but it's hard to say completely just yet. One of the major complaints at Shea was the bad site lines. Since our seats were pretty much directly square to the field, we can't say just yet that the site lines are better (though the general reviews so far say that they are).

My complaint right now is not that I didn't like the stadium-- I did like it. It's that I wasn't overwhelmed. At no point did I say "wow." The first time I saw Camden Yards and Citizen's Bank Park and PNC Park and Tiger Stadium and even Great American Ballpark, I was blown away. I walked into those place and was awed. I didn't feel that at Citi Field. It was nice, it was modern, and it was upgraded, but it wasn't anything new. I know you insist that none of the modern parks are "new" and they're all copies of Baltimore, but they all have something that stands out to me. Citi didn't. Or if it does, I didn't see it yet.
