We're too far out with too many teams in front of us with not enough time to go. I long ago accepted this. Trading away our best prospects is not going to put this team in the playoffs, and it costs our team either a next wave of depth that is sorely needed by this team, or it costs them valuable trading assets for when they are in a race. I am not the only person who likes our farm system - read some of the scouting analysts out there. Ike Davis is tearing up Binghamton, Brad Holt is putting up huge strikeout numbers, and my new personal favorite Jenrry Mejia is striking players out and getting ground balls at high rates facing players 2-3 years older than him. Plus there are other guys who are going to play in the majors within a few years, guys like Reese Havens, Josh Thole, Ruben Tejada...there are legit major leaguers in our farm system. As for Fernando Martinez, are you really giving up on him after 100 plate appearances, when he's only 20 years old? He's been rushed every step of the way and eventually holds his own. He had no business seeing major league pitching this season, we aren't anywhere close to seeing what he's fully capable of in the majors. To give up on him now, after 100 at bats when he was far too young to be in the majors to begin with, is insane. Look, like most Mets fans, I'm disappointed with how this season has progressed. It's been one off-field embarrasment after another, with our share of on-field embarrassments as well. But it's not happening for us this year. Beltran won't be back at 100%, Reyes probably won't be either, who knows what kind of shape Carlos Delgado's hip will be in when he returns...there's just too many question marks to justify trading top prospects for a short-term gain that probably won't even put them in the postseason. If this was last year, I can see making that kind of splash, but this isn't a team that's making the playoffs. Minaya can say all he wants that he was in negotiations with several GM's for possible trades but I really don't care nor necessarily believe him. You can't really tell me that picking up Victor Martinez or Roy Halladay would only give the Mets a small improvement. So your saying every 5th day, you got a guy thats going to pitch close to 9 innings, give up 2-3 runs the most, strike out 6-9 guys, and probably dominate a new league is only a small improvement? Oh yeah, he's not gonna tax your bullpen either. Have you forgotten about Johan and what he brings to the table every 5th day? Now add that 1-2 punch of Roy Halladay and your looking at one of the premier front end starting rotations in all of baseball. Let's face it the Mets farm system is awful. Only you and Omar Minaya believe that there's anyone good in there. We saw the Mets best prospect come up and be in- effective and now he's hurt. Aside from his young age of 20, he looked overmatched and overrated. I wouldn't have minded getting Kazmir either. He's still young enough and has the talent to be a great pitcher. I'm disappointed the Mets did nothing. For me, its the final straw with Minaya and his tenure with this team. I'm disappointed you feel this way.
