It was two years ago on Thanksgiving that Omar Minaya had his first meeting with Pedro Martinez, and officially began to change the perception of this Mets team. No longer were the Mets content to give big money deals to mediocre names; now they were going to target big name, marquee free agents with huge dollar contracts. We saw the start of the benefit immediately, and last year we saw the Mets come a hair away from making the World Series. What’s the next step going to be? Will it involve Barry Zito? Nobody yet knows, but you can say that two years ago, the Mets stopped being a laughingstock.
